Genesis Elementary School
Our elementary program consists of Kindergarten through grade 6.
Kindergarten: Our program consists of both half-day and full-day options. Mornings (8:00 - 11:45 a.m.) involve instruction utilizing a thematic approach that makes learning fun and engaging. We use a variety of curriculum, including BJU Press and Saxon Math. . For those who choose the full-day option (8:00 - 2:45), our afternoon program offers additional academic and art-related enrichment.
Grades 1st-6th: Small class sizes and individual attention characterize all of our elementary classes. Each day begins with a devotional time facilitated by the teacher that encourages our students to pray for one another and to be nourished on God's Word. Following that is our school-wide "Math Hour" where students are grouped according to achievement levels, not merely by grade level. In this way each child is able to access the type of support and instruction that he or she needs, whether for more advanced or more remedial study. The Saxon Math series is used in all classes.
Language Arts (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Vocabulary) is a rich time of exploration and systematic development of basic skills for all students. Using the BJU Press curriculum, our teachers introduce creative and stimulating ways to make language learning meaningful. Science and History instruction, our other core subjects, involve further hands-on learning activities and implementation of critical thinking skills. BJU Press Curriculum is also used for both subjects.
Music is a great the students enjoy a weekly class with an experienced music teacher that culminates in a year-end musical production enjoyed by the whole family and friends.
Our overall spiritual objective in the early years is "biblical literacy." We believe children will grow in a personal relationship to God as they learn the basics of the Bible, its timeless truths and its trustworthy promises. Here is brief clip of the 1st and 2nd grade class reciting the books of the Bible during a chapel time:
